IRON MAIDEN Bassist Joins Daughter On Stage For VOODOO SIX Gig

The Marquee Club in Hertford played host to the debut UK performance of one of the country's hottest new musical talents on Monday night. Lauren Harris, 21, eldest daughter of IRON MAIDEN bass player Steve Harris, rolled into town after recording and gigging in Miami. With her dad in tow, Lauren lined up four UK gigs with London-based VOODOO SIX, with the first of them at the Railway Street venue. The aim of the shows is to add to Lauren's experience of performing live.
Steve said: "We have arranged four little gigs in the UK for Lauren. She has already done a few in Miami and a television show appearance."
Lauren and Steve Harris on stage Fresh from playing at the Hammersmith Apollo earlier in the month, Steve chatted about the Marquee. He added: "This is a great little place. It's a nice size with a good atmosphere even before the doors open. It takes me back to the early Maiden days. At the end of the day it is about the music, the sound here is good. One of our sound guys works here and we asked him to set up the gig. It was a good opportunity for Lauren as there was a good turnout. The only problem for me is that I feel more nervous waiting for Lauren to perform than I do for Maiden gigs."
Kev Saunders, the Marquee's music director was delighted with the evening. He said: "It was a good night, to see a genuine rock legend like Steve Harris on our stage was great. To have people like Iron Maiden asking us to out on a showcase for them, after being open for just 18 months is amazing. It puts us and the town on the map."
With her debut UK show under her belt, Lauren said: "It was my first time playing in front of my friends and family, so I was very nervous. I didn't know anyone in the audience at the Miami gigs, so it wasn't so bad."
Steve surprised the audience by getting up on stage and performing with his daughter for one song. With Steve's appearance at the Marquee, could we see rock giants Iron Maiden play in Hertford? It's unlikely. Steve added: "If Maiden came to play here it would cause some problems. If we played we'd have to go under a different name, but there are six of us in the band now, we wouldn't all fit on the stage."
Catch Lauren Harris and Voodoo Six on September 27 at the Caernarvon Castle, Camden and on September 30 at the Marquee London.
