Täälläkö ne Freedom Callin jutustelutkin olivat?

Ei uusi Land Of The Crimson Dawn tämä Dimensionsia huonoimpanaan hakkaa, mutta 2 ekaa biisiä nostavat odotukset kattoon ja yllättävät muutenkin. Age Of The Phoenix ja Terra Liberty ovat muuten molemmat kitaristi Rettkowitzin tekemiä, vanhaa pm-henkeä saisi tältä kaverilta tulla lisääkin jatkossa.
Kuka olisi uskonut että Rockstars olisi ollut näinkin hyvä biisi, jo pelkän nimen piti tuo pilata. Mutta sen jälkeen putoaa taso varsin tasaisesti, oikeastaan aina Killer Geariin asti (toinen 'nimeään parempi' -yllättäjä sekin!) Chris Bay ei kyllä koskaan kärinöineen livenä pysty kovin häävisti vetämään, sen verran surkeaa oli yritys tuolla saralla viimevuotisella live-DVD:lläkin.

Melkein-nimibiisi Crimson Dawn & em. Terra Liberty menevät ihan hyvä -sarjaan, ensimmäinen pelkästään mahtavalla bridgellään ja riffillään. Rockin' Radio ja Power & Glory ovat vastapainona näille juuri sellaista pahamaineista kuraa Far Awayn tapaan, jollaista en kaikkein rakkaimmassa musiikkityylissäni haluaisi missään nimessä koskaan kuulla. Edellislevyn a Perfect Day on just niin kaukana kepeässä kokeilussa kuin Freedom Callille "sallisin"; miksi noita stanan säkkipillisampleja pitää vain survoa mukaan, tulee aivan tuo Dimensionsin päättäjä ja aiheuttamansa lukuisat painajaiset mieleen

Live In Hellvetia-DVD:llä tosin huomasi pahemmin, että näinkö iso osa bändiä hävisi Zimmermanin mukana, kun Sperling on juuri niin tylsä kun on. Nyt levyllä vähän vähemmän vaikuttaa asiaan, mutta liekö tuo sitten psykosomaattista oiretta sitten.
Mutta pääasia LOTCD:lle on, ettei se ollut niin mahalasku kuin oli ennakkoon lupa odottaa, onneksi. Mutta eipä tämä toiseksi heikoimman paikalta taida omalla listallani mitään toista albumia ohittaa pitkässä juoksussakaan.

AltSounds recently conducted an interview with FIREWIND and OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist Gus G. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

AltSounds: Fantastic! So, looking back at your year so far, how has 2012 been treating you?

AltSounds: [FIREWIND's] new album — "Few Against Many" — is going to hit Europe on May 21st. What should we be looking forward to from the record? Anything particularly different?

Gus: Yeah, it's actually a very different album to our previous ones — in songwriting, production, concept, pretty much everything. We made a lot of stuff pretty different. I think it's a much heavier album than our previous album, too.

AltSounds: So how long have you and the rest of the band been working on the album? Has it taken a while to put together?

Gus: It's kinda weird because we've been kind of on-and-off with it; I was writing a lot of material while I was on the road with Ozzy, over the last year. During a lot of the tour breaks I just sat down with all these ideas for riffs and things, and I was thinking, "I should make some demos before I forget them!" [laughs] Then I realized I had about six or seven good songs that had come out, which I sent to the guys. We started working on the songs — exchanging files and stuff — and then we did some tours and festivals in the summer. We went on tour in the fall and over time we just kept working on the album. It really was on-and-off for a few months, but without all the stress, to be honest. We didn't have a label, and we hadn't told anybody we were working on a new album; we just wanted to do it on our own terms. Whenever we were ready, we just booked studio time, and by the time we'd finished, we started talking to labels and that kind of thing. So it was a very relaxed kind of process, even though a lot of the writing was between tours and traveling and playing. It sounds chaotic, but it really wasn't.

AltSounds: Did you find that keeping the album under wraps gave you more creative freedom than you'd normally get from your typical writing and recording process?

Gus: Oh yeah! Once you call up the label and say, "Hey, I'm doing a new album," then they start hitting you with dates, organizing what you're doing with your time and sending people to check out what you're doing. We didn't want any of that. We didn't really have a record deal at the time either, and we wanted to take things one thing at a time. The music came first. Once we had that part down, we knew we were in for the long haul and we were going to be mixing the album and all of that, then we started negotiating with people and labels and exploring our options.

AltSounds: Obviously — working with Ozzy as a member of his band — quite the achievement! How've things changed for you since you started playing together?

Gus: Oh, my whole life has changed for the better! It's opened a lot of new doors for me, and it's definitely exposed me to a much bigger audience. It's such a great feeling, such a rewarding thing, to know that all the years of hard work are paying off now; more people are paying attention, more people are listening, and I'm grateful for that.

AltSounds: And clearly, Ozzy is a man who's got mountains of experience in the music industry; what has he taught you that you'll never forget?

Gus: The guy has many pieces of advice, it's never just one. Just being around the guy, seeing how he works and hearing his stories is just one big learning experience. You don't get to hear or see that stuff anywhere else. But the one thing that he told me that has really stuck with me was, after the first gigs, every night he would say, "You're playing great, but be yourself. Be more yourself, don't be scared about who was here before you." He was right about that.

Frontiers Records has set a June 5 North American release date four days earlier in Europe) for "Nine", the third album from Norwegian progressive metallers CIRCUS MAXIMUS.

Five years after the release of the concept album "Isolate", CIRCUS MAXIMUS is back with what is described in a press release as "a strong and mature CD."

"A lot happened in our personal lives during the past few years," explains drummer Truls Haugen. "Three of us had kids, plus we also had a several bumps in the road with the production. So it has not exactly been a joyride, but it feels great to finally be done, and after all this time we are ready to unleash our new monster!"

CIRCUS MAXIMUS worked hard to further refine its sound. The band's musical formula is not easy to accomplish — take jaw-dropping musicianship, add a singer like Michael Eriksen with a voice from heaven and toss it together with hooks, anthemic melodies and enough groove and heavy riffing that really gets into your head.

For this new record, CIRCUS MAXIMUS presents the best of both worlds — offering their most melodic and at the same time heaviest moments of their repertoire, with class and maturity which is really from another world.

IRON SAVIOR mainman Piet Sielck left SAVAGE CIRCUS last year. He explained in a statement, "I am proud of what has been achieved, but I just cannot imagine myself doing songwriting and production more or less completely alone for a third time. This has drained too much energy in the past, which was needed in more important spots. I am not willing to make such a sacrifice again."

SAVAGE CIRCUS's second album, "Of Doom And Death", was released in October 2009 via Dockyard 1 Records.

SAVAGE CIRCUS fired Thomen Stauch in August 2007 due to personal differences.

The band released a DVD, entitled "Live in Atlanta", through Dockyard 1. The live footage was filmed in 2006 at the ProgPower USA VII festival in Atlanta, GA.

SAVAGE CIRCUS issued its debut album, "Dreamland Manor", in North America in March 2006 via Century Media Records. The North American version of the CD, which was released in Europe in August 2005, includes the "Evil Eyes" video.

Epämääräinen huuto ja mölinä joka välispiikin välissä ympärikännissä erityisesti rukouksen aikana saattaa vaikuttaa hauskalta idealta, mutta uskisyleisö saattaa olla hieman eri mieltä.

Kysymys kuuluukin, pitäiskö ottaa revanssi parin viikon sisään.

Inspiraationa toimi Metron uutinen. Nauttikaa siis avoimen riehakkaista bakkanaaleista, jos olette menossa.

Saattaa kaiken lisäksi olla, että jos juuri Sinä olet selvästi pöhnässä yrittäessäsi sisään, eivät järkkärit päästäkään sinua sisään vaan ohjaavat sinut putkaan ja Theocracy jää näkemättä. Suosittelen myös harkitsemaan mahdollisen nyrkin ilmaanpuimisen tarpeen ilmaantuessa sormien pitämistä kämmentä vasten koko ajan. Nimittäin on olemassa sellaisia, jotka merkistä ottavat kovasti nokkiinsa. Eivät kaikki tietenkään, mutta itsellenikin on vastaavassa tapahtumassa tuosta valitettu antaumuksella.

Minusta tuo Wall Of Sound oli kyllä ihan kappaleena rehellisen paska*... mutta ainahan Kostasilla niitä riittää hyviäkin nipullinen per CD vähintään, joten parempaa odotellessa.

* kiitos umpikuivan riffinvenkutuksensa ja puuroisten vokalisointien, erityisesti kertsi kuulostaa kaoottiselta ja huonolta. Ehkä tämä on vain rankemmille jätkille tehty? höhö

Ascension vaikuttaa mukavalta tuttavuudelta. Uusi lätty Far Beyond The Stars toimii yllättävänkin hyvin. Musa on mainiota, laulaja ei ole mikään uniikki kultakurkku, mutta ihan ok kuitenkin ja vetelee melkoisen korkealta ja kovaa. Kamalan näköinen mörssäri se kyllä on, kuten alla linkitetyltä videoltakin voi todeta...

Lähin vertailukohta lienee Dragonforce, joka tulee mieleen niin soitosta kuin laulustakin.

Veikkaisin, että ken tätä puuta lukee, pitää tästä. Kyllähän linkin Somewhere Back In Time-biisillä kitarat soivat lähes sakkorangaistuksen rajoilla ja tilusta tulee tosiaan mieleen Guitar Hero

ONWARD/CRESCENT SHIELD Singer MICHAEL GRANT Dies At 39 - May 31, 2012
Michael Grant, singer of CRESCENT SHIELD, ONWARD, CYPHER SEER and LEGEND MAKER, died earlier today (Thursday, May 31) at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, California after a relatively brief but serious illness. He was 39 years old. He was peaceful and surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Michael recorded and toured with several bands throughout his career, most notably ONWARD on Century Media Records and more recently CRESCENT SHIELD on Cruz del Sur Music.

Commented CRESCENT SHIELD/ex-DESTINY'S END guitarist Dan DeLucie: "Michael's rich and powerful baritone and clean melodic vocal style made him a distinct voice in heavy metal. He was known for crafting memorable vocal hooks and layered harmonies. He often weaved multiple vocal phrases together creating a complex and striking tapestry of vocal melodies. Perhaps most notable however was the passion Mike sang with. He could evoke the strength and grandiloquence of the mightiest metal warrior or the mournful atmosphere of a passing life.

"Mike was more than just a singer, though. He was a greatly talented songwriter and lyricist. Although he didn't play an instrument, he would often write complete songs by humming guitar lines and vocalizing drum beats. His lyrics were profound, evocative and often personal. He was a true lover of heavy metal and would sing its praises with a sense of poetry and grandeur. No matter the topic: journeys into the unknown, the choices we make in life, religious dogma, or a crimson moonrise, Mike always delivered a moving message with unique elegance.

"Writing, recording, and performing music with Mike in CRESCENT SHIELD was a joy. We were in synch creatively and complemented each other's abilities very well. We produced music for the love of it. We performed for the love of it. CRESCENT SHIELD's pinnacle performance at Keep It True 2008 in Germany was a dream come true for both of us [see video below].

"Working with Mike was the most creatively rewarding experience of my life. Although the band has been on hiatus for a while, Mike and I still were writing new material and his voice and creative energies were still in top form. Losing him at such a young age is both shocking and tragic. I will miss my musical companion, my metal brother, and my friend."

Ascension vaikuttaa mukavalta tuttavuudelta. Uusi lätty Far Beyond The Stars toimii yllättävänkin hyvin. Musa on mainiota, laulaja ei ole mikään uniikki kultakurkku, mutta ihan ok kuitenkin ja vetelee melkoisen korkealta ja kovaa. Kamalan näköinen mörssäri se kyllä on, kuten alla linkitetyltä videoltakin voi todeta...

Lähin vertailukohta lienee Dragonforce, joka tulee mieleen niin soitosta kuin laulustakin.

Veikkaisin, että ken tätä puuta lukee, pitää tästä. Kyllähän linkin Somewhere Back In Time-biisillä kitarat soivat lähes sakkorangaistuksen rajoilla ja tilusta tulee tosiaan mieleen Guitar Hero

Olipa kyllä heti muutaman s. jälkeen kotoisan miellyttävää ryskettä Skotti(!)bändillä. Tosiaan paljon DF-vaikutetta, ja paksu poika laulajana toi onneksi vain ulkoisesti mieleen jonkin tämän kotikaupungin DM-aktin kollegansa, hyvä ääni kaipparilla. Dängjuu!

Lieköhän biiseistään Blackthorne klassiseen interplayn videopeliin perustuva? Tosin PC:llähän se oli tuon niminen, mie pelasin SNES:illä nimellä Blackhawk, kun tuo ns-ketjussa mainittu Offspring soi useimmiten vielä stereoissa.

VISION DIVINE To Release 'Destination Set To Nowhere' In September

Italian power/progressive metallers VISION DIVINE, founded by guitarist/songwriter Olaf Thorsen (LABYRINTH) and singer Fabio Lione (RHAPSODY OF FIRE), has inked a deal with Germany's earMUSIC, the Hamburg, Germany-based rock branch of Edel Group. The band's seventh studio album, "Destination Set To Nowhere", will be released on September 14.

"Destination Set To Nowhere" is a melting pot, a perfect mix of all the styles the band has crossed and experimented with over the years. The concept album is kept in their well-known style, spiced up with a futuristic twist. The high-class production adds up to the unbelievably driven sound.

The concept of "Destination Set To Nowhere" takes place in space, starting from the social-political troubles everybody is experiencing in every-day life. It follows a man on his journey through open space, after having left the earth together with like-minded people. They set out to search a new home, a new planet to make everything better, to live their vision of peace. Finally, after a long journey, a new planet to call home has been found. But slowly, the crew falls back into the same old routines. The new found heaven has turned into the same hell they all wanted to leave behind. The only way to escape is to set out again, one man leaving alone – destination set to nowhere.

Commented Thorsen: "We are sure this album will finally give us the chance to show all of our potential, and we worked hard on it in order to give the best possible album.
