Itselleni jäi erityisesti mieleen viime sunnuntaina menehtyneen Ronnie James Dion muistolle esittämäni akustinen tulkinta Holy Diverista. Pieni hevimenninkäinen on ollut merkittävä vaikuttaja omalla musiikillisella matkallani, joten suhtauduin klassikkokappaleen versiointiin suurella tunteella. Harmikseni en ehtinyt opetella sanoituksia ulkoa eikä lunttilappuun tukeutuminenkaan sujunut täysin ilman kompurointeja. Ajatus oli kuitenkin tärkein – terveisiä sateenkaaren tuolle puolen, maailman kovin hevilaulaja levätköön rauhassa.

Tälle pitää kyllä antaa arvoa, Kela tosiaan tekee mitä tahtoo ja onneksi tahtoi Holy Diverista vetäistä noin hienon version. Yllättävän monipuolinen herra kyllä kyseessä, ilahduttanut pariin otteeseen suurestikin tekemisillään, mitä ei ihan heti miehen tunnetuimpien kappaleiden valossa arvaisi. No onhan nekin kai ok...

Eipä sitten muuta, voisi pistää vähän lisää Dioa koneeseen. Jos vaikka uskaltautuisi Heaven and Hellin kuuntelemaan lävitse. Nimikkokappale kuitenkin yksi niistä biiseistä, jotka saavat aikaan aivan uskomattoman fiiliksen melkein joka kerralla, kun sen kuuntelee. Se loppukiihdyttely ja Dion laulu samaisessa kohdassa... They say that life's a carousel, Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well.

Täytyy itekkin sanoo että oli toi Anssi Kelan Holy Diver kyllä loistava! Kyllä nous miehen pisteet mun silmissä.

Dion tuotokset ovat tottakai muutenkin soineet tässä viime päivät. Erityisesti The Devil You Know -levyä kuunnellessa ei voi kun ihmetellä miten kova jätkä Dio oli vielä viimesimpinä päivinäänkin. Puhumattakaan tuosta Heaven and Hellin live-tallenteesta.

Joo Kela veti taas pisteet kotiin. Todella liikuttavan hieno versio...puhumattakaan noista Rainbow klassikoista, joita tuskin koskaan on paremmin coveroitu. Olen aina hämmästellyt Parviaisen laulusuorituksia. Miten noista pienistä miehistä lähteekin ääntä? Olis kyllä pakko lähteä katsomaan, jos heittäisivät tolla haaveidenilta kokoonpanolla Dion muistokeikan. Toivottavasti toteutuu.
Toinen kova rykmentti Dion coverointiin olis tietenkin Tarot. Ihmettelen suuresti, elleivät soita jonkinlaista muisto keikkaa "Jumalan" muistoksi. Soittivathan he aikoinaan Cozy Powellinkin muistolle keikan Tavastialla.

Varsin mielenkiintoinen kitarasoolotettu Pain Tracy G:n sivuilta Dion muistelupätkässä tältä ex-kitaristiltaan. Ei se levyversiolle pärjää mutta laulut lähtevät lähes yhtä vahvasti.

Imperiumi kunnioittaa omalla tavallaan Ronnie James Dioa 16:lla levyarviolla tänä viikonloppuna. Tulemme julkaisemaan yhtä aikaa 10 DIO-, kolme BLACK SABBATH- ja kolme RAINBOW-arvostelua. Kahden jälkimmäisen tuotannosta julkaistaan luonnollisestikin Ronnie James Dion laulamat albumit. Arvostelut on julkaistu aikaisemmin Aki Nuopposen Sonos Metallicos- ja Korroosio-medioiden alaisuudessa, mutta Akin liityttyä Imperiumin vahvuuteen julkaisemme levyarvostelut uudestaan Imperiumissa, samanaikaisesti viikon 21 viikonloppuna.

Tarkennukseksi omasta puolestani, että kaikkien arvioiden tekstit tuli työstettyä vähintään 60% uusiksi ihan oman hyvinvoinnin takia. Samoin kaikki Black Sabbath-arviot ovat kokonaan uusia tekstejä. Eli ihan suoraa copy+paste -meininkiä nämä eivät olleet. Näkyi tämä sitten tai ei. Olkoon tämä katras oma tapani jättää jäähyväiset Diolle, laulajalle, jonka taianomaista ääntä on tullut kuunneltua lähes yhtä monta vuotta kuin on omaan mittariin kertynyt.

Livelevy kiinnostaa luonnollisesti, toivottavasti kitaran varresta löytyy Campbell. Knucklebonzin patsaat eivät muistuta esikuviaan pätkääkään, kauheeta sheissea.

^Tää nyt on vaan villi arvaus, mutta tuleva Live-levy voipi olla Intermission ajalta Sacret Heart kiertueelta. Tuolloin Ronnie halusi julkaista tuplalive-levyn, mutta levy-yhtiö ei uskonut sen myyvän, joten oli tyytyminen Intermission EP-levyyn. Intermissionilla soittaa Graig Goldie kitaraa. Uskoisin kuitenkin, että tuplalivesuunnitelmaa varten on tuolloin keikkoja otettu narulle vaikka eivät levylle asti päässeetkään.... vielä.

Kaipa Dion arkistoissa on livetavaraa Cambellin ajoiltakin jne, mutta tällänen pohdinta tähän.

Tälläkin kertaa voitaneen puhua uutisista:

"When Ronnie James Dio passed away from stomach cancer in May, he was in the midst of launching a record label with his wife and manager, Wendy Dio. The future of the company — which they planned to call Niji Entertainment Group, and would use to release recordings by Dio and other artists — was thrown into doubt. But Wendy Dio now tells Rolling Stone that she will launch the label herself, with several releases scheduled for November. Meanwhile, she has been shopping Ronnie's memoirs with an agent.

Niji will get rolling on November 9th, when they release the double-disc set Dio at Donington UK: Live 1983 and 1987, which collects two vintage performances by Dio's solo group. The '83 performance, Wendy explains, "was the first appearance in the UK of the Dio band — it's very energetic." Four years later, the band came with a different lineup and "a lot more songs under their belt." The first disc represents "a new, young band coming out of the box," says Wendy, "and then the [second disc] is a more seasoned band."

As for the memoirs, Dio completed most of the book before he died. "I'm just going to finish the end parts of it," Wendy explains. "It's actually [intended as] a three-book deal — the memoirs of Ronnie, a book of illustrated lyrics, and a photo book."

Niji plans two other releases this year, both on November 23rd: A reissue of Holy Diver , Dio's 1983 solo debut, on 180 gram vinyl; and Bitten by the Beast, an album by Ronnie's cousin, David "Rock" Feinstein. Feinstein played with Dio in Elf, and also in a band called the Rods. "Ronnie recorded two songs with him last year," Wendy says. "One of the songs is called 'Metal Will Never Die,' and will be featured on that CD."

Wendy also turned up a few more tracks recorded after "Metal Will Never Die." These were intended for parts two and three of the Magica series, which Dio launched in 2000. " He wrote one song, called 'Electra,' which we put on the Tournado box set, which was just 1,500 copies," Wendy says. "Then he'd written two or three more songs. They will be released."

In 2011 the label will release a mammoth 16-album vinyl-or-CD box set, For the Record: The Complete Dio Vinyl Collection, plus The Complete Bootleg Box . ("There are a lot of [performances] from strange places," Wendy says of the Bootleg Box . "It will span over all the years that we have"). Also forthcoming: Elf vinyl reissues, and a DVD release of the import VHS video, Super Rock Japan 1985.

Like you all it's been difficult to deal with the fact that Ronnie is no longer with us.

To me, he was my best friend, leader of the band, the driving force behind the most creative and enjoyable music i have ever been involved in.

It was always an honor being a part of his band and always something i was proud of.

I think about him everyday, he had some big plans for the band, I miss his humor and his company, boy could he tell a good joke.

It's difficult to know what to do next, but whatever I do in the future I will take with me the knowledge and wisdom I learned from Ron.

To Wendy, you are an incredible woman, your thoughtfulness and care over these past months, considering how you must be feeling has been amazing..

I want to thank the fans for all the great shows, DIO FANS RULE!!.
