NO OHHOH!

Odotan kyllä innolla levyä. Kuuntelin kesällä matkan päällä Live fast die fast levyä ja toimi kesämusana hienosti. Joskus nuorempana en niin syttynyt musaan, ainoastaan joku Man Hunt iski mut nyt diggaan muustakin materiaalista varsin laajasti. Jos vanhoja surkeilla soundeilla äänitettyjä biisejä nauhoitetaan uusiksi niin niistähän tulee ihan killeri biisejä jos vaan Blaze vetää yhtä sekotyylillä biisit purkkiin 8)

Olisivat nyt edes hommanneet jonkun ammattilaisen tekemään kannet...

Sen verran silti heräsi kiinnostus, että pitää joskus hankkia levy hyllyyn tästä ulkomusiikillisesta seikasta huolimatta. Ehkä samalla olisi aika jo perehtyä niihin vanhoihinkin lättyihin. Nimim. En ole koskaan kuullut yhtään biisiä bändiltä...

Wolfsbane : Save The World
http://www.wolfsbanehms.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I’m not really sure where to begin here. It’s been such a long time since I’ve heard a true album. Not a few good songs here and there with the obligatory filler, but an honest to goodness rock ‘n’ roll album start to finish. A record that not only gets you off your ass and swings and moves and energizes with the god damned passion that made you love music in the first place, but also completely reasserts your faith in the rock 'n' fuckin' roll that got you completely addicted to begin with.
Wolfsbane, with tongue firmly planted in cheek, titled their new album “Wolfsbane Save The World.” I’m here to tell you it ain’t no joke. From the opening guitar of “Blue Sky,” all the way to the haunting and huge “Child of the Sun,” to album closer and a single they released earlier in the year “Did It For The Money,” this album was almost two decades in the making and somehow Wolfsbane has made it worth the wait.

Singer Blaze Bayley’s true passion may be heavy metal, but on here is positively charming as he croons and sings with swagger belting out very melodic hard rock ‘n’ roll with complete ease. Wolfsbane have always had that tinge of Roth-era Van Halen and a trace of Black Crowes, but Van Halen and the Black Crowes never wrote a record this good. How bold of a statement is that for you? And while “Teacher” may strike even more similarities to DLR, Wolfsbane takes the rock further, the melody further, the backing vocals further and the songwriting further, too. “Starlight” and “Illusion of Love” are positively anthemic. So much so the latter sounds like a punked-up version of "Bat Out Of Hell." The hooks on both will give you goose bumps, the hair on the back of your neck standing up just long enough before they slam you back to the womb again with slamming riff-raff, stories of being born in the “Smoke and Red Light,” and that “Everybody’s Looking For Something Baby.” Every song sounds like it could be a set closer, building and building with immense anticipation before completely crashing over the top and ending in spectacular fashion and fanfare. Wolfsbane has just written the record of not only the year, but also of their career and quite possibly everyone else’s too. Motherfuckin’

10/10

WOLFSBANE : 'Save The World'

Wolfsbane have reformed a couple of times over the last few years and toured occasionally, but 'Save The World' is their first full length album since 1994s self-titled album. The question is, though, is it any good?

Well, the short answer is "Yes, it's very good" but the longer answer is that this album is everything you expect from a Wolfsbane record. Eleven rock solid tracks performed with skill and integrity. The latter has always been an important factor within Wolfsbane, so this album is an entirely independent release – financed, written, recorded, produced and distributed without any interference from a record company.

'Blue Sky' kicks things off nicely followed by 'Teacher' and 'Buy My Pain' (which first came to light in the 1995 post-Wolfsbane album when Jase Edwards, Steve Ellett and Jeff Hateley formed a short-lived band called Stretch along with Jez Spencer) before things slow down with the almost autobiographical 'Starlight'.

There isn't really a bad song on the album and tracks like 'Live Before I Die', the heavier 'Everybody's Looking For Something Baby' and 'Child Of The Sun' (a first for Wolfsbane since the track is penned soley by guitarist Jase Edwards unlike nearly all the previous compositions which have been credited to the band) are all songs that are well written and performed.

If this is Wolfsbane's last hurrah on an album – it's a great farewell! Then again this could be a stepping stone to bigger and better things in the future!

Kiitti!

Laitetaanpas tänne alubumitopikkiinkin tuo Iiviksen poustaama uusi kipale.

Wolfsbane – Wolfsbane Save The World
Review by Rick Ossian

This is really great, varied stuff. A little something for everyone, from country-tinged Southern rock to primal, punkish thrash! Most folks reading this will probably wonder the obvious; what about Blaze Bayley? Well, in my opinion, he does his vocal reputation wonders here, giving the obvious stigma of having been the man to replace Bruce Dickinson… The other three members (Jase Edwards – guitar, Jeff Hateley – bass, and Steve “Danger” Ellett on drums) do themselves right proud as well. There are no duds here, musically or vocally, unless you’re not a fan of the workman-like style ballads, then steer clear of The Illusion of Love. At just over six minutes, it is easily the longest track on the disc, but it does not drag on as bad as that would make one expect. It is unique for this collection, however, in that the majority of the tracks are short, punchy numbers. …Illusion is a vocally lush, almost power-pop ballad, but it is still a good tune.

Blue Sky and Live Before I Die, the two other longer tunes, are about as different as you can get. While the former is more of a traditional rock number, churning and pumping like a riff factory almost the entire length of the song, the latter, on the other hand, features a reggae-ish break about a minute in! Teacher features a definite AC/DC vibe, killer power chords opening (really dig the vocals here, by the way) and a killer hell-raising chorus (whoo hoo hoo hoo HOO!). Buy My Pain gives new meaning to the phrase ‘chops’, as that’s exactly what the riffs remind one of, especially in the introduction. There are elements of punk and thrash throughout this number. Again, with Starlight, we are listening to a more traditional, classic rock tune, almost Southern rock even. I was reminded of Drive-By Truckers or Kings of Leon! ‘Whatever makes you happy’ seems to be a very fitting refrain here, as the mood lightens considerably during this tune.

Smoke and Red Light, on the other hand, is a real stomper, almost a punk vibe again. Power pop comes to mind as well, even traces of psychobilly! Tasty lead guitar work about half way in, as the subject contemplates the days ‘when we were kings’. Not a bad tune at all. Who Are You Now? is another slammer with some cool vocal effects. These also adorn Child of the Sun. Everybody’s Looking For Something is another punk number with some serious bass guitar. It is a power punk pumper (say that five times fast), the sort of churning metal boogie that brings on the inevitable nodding of the head. I love the line ‘ever get the feelin your being cheated?’ Did It For the Money is another ass-kicker. It is a punk/metal crossover with aggressive attitude, but also has that power pop punch to it. All in all, a real power pop punk rock metal manifesto! Yes, I was impressed!

No perkele kait se on pakko pikkuhiljaa uskoa, että tiukka levy kyseessä! :) Tuleekohan tämä levy myyntiin tammikuussa myös perus puljuihin kuten Play.com jne...

Wolfsbane: Wolfsbane Save The World

Make no mistake about it back in the late 80's Wolfsbane did things the hard way. Slogging their way around the clubs of the UK to build a groundswell of support via the legendary "Howling Mad Shitheads", they proved that old fashioned hard work pays dividends when they came to the attention of Rick Rubin and Def American. Whether this proved to be a good thing or a bad thing is a moot point but the fact is the band never made an album that genuinely captured the vibrancy of their amazing live shows. Some eighteen years on from their last studio album Blaze, Jase, Jeff and Danger and are back with Wolfsbane Save The World…the perfect pick me up for anyone in need of a boost during this winter of discontent.

He may have been the wrong singer for Iron Maiden but Blaze Bayley is absolutely the right singer for Wolfsbane. Bellowing, growling, snarling and screaming his way through the ten tracks Blaze is a commanding presence throughout. Recent solo forays have taken him into the dark metal underbelly of rage and angst but there is a sense of fun and purpose about the energetic, full-throttle, opening salvo of "Blue Sky", "Teacher" and "Buy My Pain". Rollicking good British Hard Rock is what Wolfsbane are all about but they also offer up the superb melodic power ballad "Starlight" that highlights a different side to the band and takes the mood down to one of poignant reflection. The autobiographical "Smoke and Red Light" traces the Wolfsbane story from their early days and is rich in hooks and melody with Jase delivering a top-notch solo. Also taking on the role of producer the guitarist has extracted quality performances from the band and allows time for the bands stripped back style to ebb and flow with the head banging, first pumping choruses. "Did it for the Money" may (or may not) be Blaze looking back at his decision to quit Wolfsbane for the Premier League of Maiden but whatever the inspiration the soaring vocals and we-are-all-in-this-together approach combine to ensure it is another stand out moment across an album that excels from start to finish.

Either the last great album of 2011 or the first great album of 2012. Bigger, bolder and ballsier than they ever were before…Wolfsbane are back to save the world. Amen.
