Angrat on aina aiemmin jääneet jostain syystä hankkimatta mutta ostinpa nyt halvalla CDON:ista Rebirth/Temple of Shadows -tuplan. Templeä on paljon kehuttu mutta ajattelin mennä kronologisesti ja kuunnella ensin Rebirthin ja siirtyä sitten jälkimmäiseen teokseen. No, Rebirthiä tässä on kuitenkin enimmäkseen kuunneltu viime päivät kun Temple on jäänyt kertapyöräytykseen.
Molemmat laadukkaita levyjä mutta jotenkin tämä Rebirth nyt vaan kolisee ihan saakelin kovaa. Nämä samba/latinojutut on varmaan brasseille yhtä karseita myötähäpeägeneraattoreita kuin Suomen miljoona folkmetal-bändiä meille mutta ah kun toimii...

Jos halvalla saat niin hommaa ihmeessä Hunters And Prey EP (2002) jatkamaan tuon Rebirthin fiilistä, hiton hyvä sellainen, eikä mitään rahastusmeininkiä

Live And Learn -muistaakseni Matos-eran ylijäämämateriaalia, mutta miten ihmeessä? näin huikea melodiapommi olisi tehnyt jokaisen levynsä paremmaksi.
Bleeding Heart -Rebirthin japanibonus, pätevä balladi.
Hunters And Prey -etnoakin etnompi nimikkokappale.
Eyes Of Christ -Holy Land-sessioiden demobiisi uuteen elämään muokattuna. Tämän julkaisun parhain veto.

Ei hitto, tuo on jo paha -alle vitosen kappale, pitääpä heti tsekata josko ARP:n Eternal Prisoner & Between The Walls -kaksikon saisi myös moisella alella (ainoat puuttuvat levynsä niistä sadasta, olleet aina minidiscillä/koneella -korvikeuhreina).

Joo sehän se tärkeintä, vaikka kai musiikin pitäisi, mutten mie silti ostaisi mitä näitä Sonyn tmv. uusia "2 in 1" -levyjä näin Kodin Ykkösen aletornissa muutamalla eurolla, mihin oli vaikkapa kaksi ekaa The Stoogesin levyä sullottu samaan (myös Manowaria, Faith No Morea yms. kuuluu sarjaan), vaikka kuinka haluaisinkin ne hyllyyni.

Aika hyvä huomio tuo AFM, mie hokannut yhtään. Enkä ole kyllä ennen ajatellutkaan että heillä(kin) tuollaisia tuplasettejä olisi, mutta cdonin mukaan näemmä näin on.

Eli André Matosin ensimmäinen (täyspitkä) levytys v. 1987 soimassa viimeisessä biisissään, Viperin (BRA) Soldiers Of Sunrise. Kokoonpanolla:

-voisinpa otaksua, että ylempänä mainittu kitaristi on tämä nykyajan Andreas Marschall kansitaitelijapiireissä (mm. Axel Rudi Pellin tuoreemmat). Mutta se, mitä pohdin tämän yhdeksänbiisisen julkaisun soidessa, on julkaisuvuoden ja vaikutteiden mielenkiintoinen korrelaatio.
Siinä missä Helloween olisi helppoa niputtaa sellaiseksi vaikuttajaksi (usein näin on nähty tehdynkin, mie kuulin tätä vasta nyt netin suosioillisella avustuksella), pitää huomata heidän tehneen samaan '87 -aikaan vasta ensimmäistä omaa vastaavaa julkaisua, vokalisointityylin tärkeyden huomioiden.
Tietenkään Iron Maidenin vaikutusta 'weenille ei ole koskaan voinut väheksyä, mutta tällä Viperillä se tietty basson ja laukkakompin jolkutusyhdistelmä kuuluu vain mukavan selkeästi läpi. Eli IM-faneille vain testiin; Matosin laulutapa on toki enemmän Kisken linjoilla (vaikkei kuitenkaan Angran sfääreissä vielä), joten tuon valinnan/sattuman merkitys on Helloweenilla kuitenkin ansaitusti niskassaan tuolta tietyltä aikakaudelta.

Mutta mukavaa old school -meloheavya oli tämä, tuskin tulee CD-versiota helpolla heti vastaan mutta hyvä että edelleenkin löytyy "uusia" (malliin kuultu vuosia sitten, muttei mistään vain löytynyt) tuttavuuksia kuunteluun.

Tuli viime päivinä löydettyä tämäkin bändi sitten. Pääasiassa Rebirth, Angels Cry ja Temple of Shadows olleet kuuntelussa, monia hienoja biisejä on kehissä. Ja toki progempikin matsku menee, mutta kovana power metallin ystävänä ne nopeammat rallit kiinnostaa enemmän (Nova Era, Spread Your Fire etc).

Angralla pitäis olla uuttakin levyä tulossa:

Angran uusi levy on nimeltään Aqua ja ilmestyy ainakin Japanissa ensi kuussa.


Uusi biisi Arising Thunder on myös kuultavissa täällä, kuulostaa Temple of Shadows -kamalta. Toivottavasti koko levykin kuulostaa enemmän siltä kuin Auroralta, en osaa tarkkaan sanoa mikä siinä levyssä mättää mutta ei sitä vaan jaksa kuunnella.

Power-metalifaneja hemmotellaan kun ainakin Helloween, Stratovarius ja Angrakin julkaisevat tänä vuonna uutukaisensa, ja Gamma Rayltäkin tuli uutta materiaalia.

Aika perus biisi tuo uutukainen, semmonen keskiverto nopea ralli. Varmaan paranee hieman kun enemmän kuuntelee. Temple Of Shadowsin suuntaan voitaisiin mennä enemmän, sillä levyllä kun on monia hienoja vetoja.

Mahdollisesti ja vissiin syyskuun lopussa olisi Euroopan julkaisu SPV:ltä tulossa tuosta Aquasta.

Aivan mukavan, perinteisen kuuloinen biisi. Tosiaan lähempänä TOS:in tyyliä kuin Rebirthin etnoa ja yleistä raikkautta. Lupa odottaa AC:ia parempaa kyllä.

Edu Falaschin ääntä ja laulumelodioita on mukava kuunnella. Itse kaipaisin Angran uudelta levyltä sitä etnosoundia, joka oli suuressa osassa Temple of Shadowilla.

Mahtavaa! Tätä odotetaan kieli pitkänä, viimeiset kolme levyä ovat kaikki olleet nannaa. (tosin progevaihdetta voisi vähän vähentää Aurora Consurgenista) Ainoa mikä vaivaa on tuleva kiertue, missähän kunnossa bändi mahtaa olla sillä kaikki 2009 live vedot mitä olen tuubista katsonut on bändi ollut aika ruosteessa (varsinkin Edu), no mutta toivotaan että alkaa homma toimimaan tämän uuden levyn myötä.

ANGRA: More 'Aqua' Details Revealed - July 27, 2010

Brazilian metallers ANGRA will release their seventh studio album, "Aqua" (a Latin word which means "water" in English), in Europe on September 29 and in the U.S. on October 12 via SPV/Steamhammer. A conceptual effort, the follow-up to 2006's "Aurora Consurgens" was recorded at Norcal Studios in São Paulo, Brazil.

"Aqua" will be available in four formats: a limited-edition digipack that includes a bonus CD featuring a career-spanning overview of ANGRA's Edu Falaschi (vocals) era; a standard jewel-case edition; a double-LP edition that includes three bonus tracks; and as a digital download.

ANGRA guitarist Rafael Bittencourt recently spoke at length about the concept and recording of "Aqua".

"Here we are again. Doing what we love the most, which is to bring our music to the world. That amazing feeling of having our ideas spread among the fans like seeds that will be growing, as people get more involved with the album.

"Finally, after four years of no work released, we are bringing what in our opinion is one of our best pieces ever composed, 'Aqua'.

"There is a very interesting guideline to the play.

"After reading the text a few times we've discovered that the element water is the main character of the story. It changes in cycles, transforming itself; transforming things around it, representing the wrath in the surges, then the forgiveness in the calm.

"Everything happens after a huge storm that took place on an island shore. While the wild waters are coming from above and below, a ship and its crew are fighting to avoid a shipwreck.

"Maybe by coincidence, this year we had strong storms that caused floods, landslides and other problems to many Brazilian cities. We could see that the same thing was happening in different countries almost at the same time injuring and killing people. It seems that the waters are representing a time of change. The upcoming of the Age of Aquarius, the apocalypse, the prophecies about 2012 and other matters were flying around our conversations.

"We wanted a title that would describe in a very concise way that concept. 'Aqua' is the Latin word for water and summarizes the whole idea behind the Shakespearean play and our feelings at this remarkable moment. 'The Tempest' is also a very mysterious and unique work from Shakespeare. It was the very last play that he had written and it is full of personal statements. Every time you read, you discover some new aspect of the construction or some hidden curiosity within the lines. The story is about a king named Prospero and his daughter Miranda. They were left exiled on an island that was supposed to be a wasteland. The Island was not so deserted and they've built a life together with the magic creatures of that very enchanted place. Prospero plans revenge against his betraying opponents and raises, by means of magic, a huge storm upon the ship that carries them. He finally forgives the evil acts of his enemies when he realizes that those acts haven't harmed him like they were intended to.

"So, the water is representing the coming of Prospero's maturity and all the transformations and cycles that led him to that point. We were also going through a lot of renovation processes and we wanted to express the idea of being renewed. Letting go of bad feelings and thoughts is a common theme between this Shakespeare's text and 'Aqua'. 'The Tempest' helped us to describe more clearly our emotions at this moment.

"Although this album sounds very different than our previous album, 'Aurora Consurgens', there are not many musical differences between 'Aqua' and our last three albums. We tried to keep the idea of combining metal with progressive, classic, Brazilian, ethnic, pop and many other styles. The big difference is that this time we were really hit by inspiration. So we wrote almost thirty good songs, and we ended up picking the best ten out of the big list.

"All the atmosphere of companionship and teamwork was captured in the tracks. We really helped each other on every detail and that's what made the songs so powerful and special.

"Another important difference is that the drummer Ricardo Confessori is back in the band. This was only possible because, after the recording sessions of the BITTENCOURT PROJECT's 'Brainworms' where he performed on a couple of tracks. Since then, we have regained our trust and friendship. We had a few rehearsals with ANGRA where he jammed around songs from the old and new era of the band. Also, we presented some new ideas for him to arrange and he showed that he had kept his creativity and graceful musicianship. We had good laughs remembering things we've done together in the past and how the Brazilian-mixed kind grooves were a very significant quality of our pre-'Rebirth' era.

"So, 'Aqua' represents where we are now. And we hope that it will be remembered as one of our great classic albums, because it was done with great passion, focus and dedication.

"We expect that every detail of these carefully crafted new songs may help you out through your own times of change. Tämä uusi Angrahan on tosiaan jo aikaisemmin tässä kuussa vuotanut julki, eli Youtubea selaamaan, jos mielii kuunnella levyä kuukautta ennen julkaisua.

Muutaman biisin olen kuunnellut ja ainakin Lease of Life oli sen verran yksinkertaista ja tarttuvaa että tykkäsin heti, muut meni vähän ohi korvien. Jotenkin tämä on kuitenkin edelleen loppuvuoden julkaisukasassa siellä vähiten kiinnostavassa päässä, tässähän tulee ainakin Kamelot ja Therion vielä ennen julkaisupäivää.

Ja sitten jotain ihan muuta.

Aqua ei kyllä vaikuta kauhean hyvältä (ei tosin Shamankaan ainakaan äkkiseltään, vaikka paremman vaikutuksen sinkku tekikin); mutta Angraa huhuillaan kiertueellaan suomeen & Nosturiin, liekö toteutuu sitten? Voisi olla aika mielenkiintoinen, vielä näkemättä kuitenkin.

Oli mielestäni vielä huonompi levy tuo Aqua kuin edellinen Aurora Consurgens. Kattoo jos saisi pistettyä lisäkuuntelua jossain välissä, ilmestyy vaan niin paljon parempiakin levyjä lähiaikoina.

Nostetaan ketjua viimeiseltä sivulta, niin ei huomaamatta häviä kuten niin moni muu. Bändille ei vain taida kuulua mitään erityisempää, noin huonojen 2 viimeisimmän levyn jälkeen ei kyllä kauheasti intoa olekaan. Shamanikin seurasi vielä mukana ja teki heikoimpansa koskaan, tästä Angran kanssa samaan aikaan ilmestyneestä Origins-lätystä. Johan se Immortal olikin ihmeellisen hyvä, kun 89% bändistä oli vaihtunut Matosin sooloksilähdön ym. muutosten aikaan.

No jo, kyllähän tuo Edu aika karsean kuuloinen on tuolla linkin Rebirth-videolla, joten ihan oikeassa taitaa (itsestään!) olla. Saas nähdä värväävätkö veteraanit jonkun nousevan kyvyn tilalle, kun varmasti brasseista joitakin Iuri Sansonin kaltaisia lahjakkuuksia kyllä löytyy. ANGRA/ALMAH Frontman Says He Has Been Singing 'Totally Out Of His Range' For Past 10 Years - Sep. 29, 2011

Brazilian heavy metal singer Eduardo "Edu" Falaschi (ANGRA, ALMAH, SYMBOLS) has released the following statement:

"Dear friends,

"At last I would like to clarify some facts about my voice with all the sincerity, humility and integrity that I may have.

"For over 20 years I have worked without a day off in the heavy metal style, and we all know how difficult and technically demanding it is. Joining ANGRA, I had to fit a particularly high way of singing, which was totally out of my range, and of the vast majority of the singers! At the time I took the responsibility and faced all the pressure. But 10 years ago it was much easier due to the physical factor, excitement and age. I started to feel, year after year, gradually, the difficulties of singing something so high and out of my natural trait. I fought to the end! I did everything possible to continue to sing the songs, particularly the old ones, always in high pitches, because the melodic metal audience has ever 'demanded' this of us singers. But unfortunately, today, older and more experienced, I assume that I am no longer able to sing so high. I am extremely tired and feeling the weight of all that in my voice, including the region that has always been the most comfortable for me! I'm a baritone singer who dominates the mediums and lows, with drive, singing with a more aggressive chest voice, as I did in SYMBOLS and do in ALMAH. I have conquered many things and built much of my story with my own style.

"Therefore, I made a decision, thinking only and exclusively about the health of my voice and integrity of my career, which I have built with so much struggle and dedication.

"After fulfilling all the promotional activities of [the new ALMAH album] 'Motion', scheduled until the end of the year, I will stop indefinitely to finally rest and be able to deal properly with my health. But I have to point out that from today on I'll just sing whatever is in my natural range, be it in ANGRA or any other band, for my own good! I want to be who I really am, instead of being what people want me to be! In the meantime, I'll continue with my activities as a producer and composer, which are things I love doing, and will not harm at all the progress of my recovery.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the fans who always supported me and defend me unconditionally! I will always do my best writing and singing good music for you guys, with all my truth and emotion! This is the first step to a new time in my life! I have confidence in the future and will always be passionate about the greatest music ever, HEAVY METAL!"
