Eihän tuollainen toimi käytännössä mitenkään. Laulaja on keulakuva. Kaksi keulakuvaa ehkä toimisi paperilla mutta käytännössä? En mä ainakaan jakaisi lavaa muiden laulajien kanssa. Siis jos olisin laulaja.
Nile on nyt poikkeus, mutta täysin taas eri asia.

Kauniita? sanoja vähän lisää Schafferin suunnasta. Näyttää siltä, että Iced Earth vetäytyy hieman taustalle, koska Barlow jatkaa uraansa poliisina. Eli keikkailevat silloin, kun sattuu työvuoroihin sopimaan. Mutta, lukekaa itse.

In a statement issued through SPV, ICED EARTH mainman Jon Schaffer shines a little more light on the return of singer Matt Barlow:

It will be sometime before I’m going to be doing press due to the holidays and the fact that I’m still deep in the final writing process of Part 2. I’m aware that the news of Matt coming back into to the band has taken many people by surprise so I’ll try to explain the situation a little better.

I do love Tim’s ("Ripper" Owens - ex-JUDAS PRIEST) voice and it is the kind of voice I hear when I write, and he’s a really cool person. And I do not want an unnecessary war of words started because certain journalists like to create controversy to sell their magazines. I love Tim as a person, a friend and a musician, and I do not have negative feelings towards him at all. We would all appreciate it if the trash pedlars would respect the situation and keep their venomous speculations to themselves. An unlikely request I’m sure, but it would be nice.

On the other side, Matt and I are brothers and there was a very deep and spiritual connection that came through in the music that we created and performed together over the years. Iced Earth has always been about passion and honesty in the music, I’m talking about real, raw emotion. That’s what has always made the relationship between the band and the fans a very special thing and it is the thing that made the chemistry that Matt and I had together so special. When we split before, our relationship had suffered from various things, but mostly it came down to not communicating like we should have, which led to things being blown out of proportion. All of that is behind us and we have grown and matured and will have an even more fulfilling relationship because of what we’ve experienced and learned from the past.

Iced Earth activities will be more limited now because Matt will still be carrying on his career as a law enforcement officer. I would rather we do it this way and have the shows that happen be very special events than to carry on and feel like what’s happening isn’t genuine. This is NOT a cut on Tim. It’s just that Iced Earth really began to blossom after Matt joined the band and for years we worked our asses off together, on stage and off. Those years of work and commitment defined what Iced Earth truly is, and frankly I would rather end it than to carry on without Matt involved. All of this has been coming to a head for a while, and the talks with the fans in Europe helped cement what I already knew needed to happen.

I wish only the best for Tim, this is not a standard bullshit statement, it’s the truth. A guy with so much talent and personality only deserves the best in life and that’s what I wish for him completely."

Mitä tohon nyt sanoisi? Barlowlla on muutakin elämää kuin omat poliisihommat, joten keikkailua voisi olla vain kuukauden verran vuodessa, jos sitäkään. Herää kysymys, vaikka kuinka spiritual connection Matilla ja Jonilla onkaan, niin kuinka kauan Jon jaksaa tällä ajatusmaailmalla mennä eteenpäin? Nyt on Barlow takas, mutta missä keikat? Ripperin kanssa keikkailtiin urakalla, Matin kanssa taas keikkailu menee toissijaiseksi asiaksi, mutta kumpi on Jonille pitkän aikavälin visio? Keikkailu eli fanit, vai levyt ja Matin aikataulu?

^No, tossahan aika selvästi Jon sanoo, että jos ei Barlow ole mukana, kuoppaa koko jutun. Taitaa sitten sen ehdoilla mennä. Jokaisessa pilvessä on paskainen reunus, vai mitä toverit

Iced Earth Barlown kanssa = ei tarvitse keikoille pahemmin vaivautua, mutta voi kuunnella ihanaista ääntä levyltä...

Nooh, johan bändi on aikansa tahkonnut, taitaapi olla telakka edessä seuraavaksi. Mikään ei estä kuuntelemasta vanhoja äänitteitä.

Itse sivuutan tämän uutisen lähinnä olkapäitä kohauttamalla. Mikäs siinä, jos lavalla nähdään hevimies lähinnä koomiselta näyttävän lippispään sijaan. Laulajina molemmat toimivat Earthissa, mutta tuskinpa kenenkään on vaikea arvata sitä herraa, jota pidän enemmän tunteita nostattavana ja karismaattisempana nokkamiehenä.

Tämä Barlow'n keikkarajoitteisuus nostattaa mielenkiintoisen spekuloinnin aiheen: Olisiko nyt aika Demons & Wizardsin maailmankiertueelle? Olisi se vain hienoa nähdä Hansi ja Jon lavalla yhdessä, eikö vain poijjaat?

Nythän olisi hyvä laittaa levylle Barlowin alunperin laulamat Glorious Burden -kappaleet. Kelpais ainakin mulle.

Kaikki muut kappaleethan kerettiin äänittää Matin laulamina paitsi tuo Red Baron/Blue Max, jossa on Ripperin sanoitukset, jos en väärin muista.

^ Minusta taas se sillon useaan otteeseen toisteltu 'innottomuus' huomattiin Jonin toimesta jo varhain, eikä Barlow kerinnyt noita ensimmäisiksi (sinkulle) kaavailtuja biisejä enempää juuri hönkiä. Saatan tosin miekin muistella väärin; onko sivuillaan Q&A-osiota, pistäkää sinne

Who cares, kunhan Schäferin ja Barlowin välillä on sitä vanhaa taikaa ja Mattin ääntä IE:n levylle taas saadaan.
Ja toivon mukaan bändi tulee Suomeen, olisihan tuo lähes unelmien täyttymys.

In light of recent events, it is rather apparent that I need to address what's going on in my life as it pertains to Pyramaze and Iced Earth. As I'm sure you're aware, last week, my wife gave birth to our second son. We are all doing well, but it has taken a little time to get my thoughts together following that and the announcement of my return to Iced Earth. After Michael's statement, it became very clear to me that I must come to terms with the fact that I can not be in all places at all times. Obviously, there are some of you who had the same concerns. It just took me a little longer to figure that out. Well, the point is, I contacted Michael and let him know that I very much wanted to perform on the record, but that I would not be able to continue on with the band in a full time position as planned. I pointed out to Michael that I was extremely grateful to him and the rest of the guys for bringing me on board and I felt obligated to be up front with him on this. I did not want to do the record and then back out, leaving things on bad terms. Understandably, Michael was disappointed but ultimately understanding of the situation. Pyramaze is an extremely talented group of musicians, who's work is well known in the progressive metal community and will be in high demand in a short time. I am happy to say that I will be working with them, if only in a limited term. The music that Michael has written is going to make for a kick ass heavy metal record (KAHMR) and I give you my word that I will give everything that I've got to insure that. Thanks for your time...you'll hear from us soon!

Hello friends, 

As you can all read in Matt's statement, the term of our cooperation has changed due to the fact that he's back in Iced Earth. When Matt approached me with his thoughts and decisions, we had the choice of A. Letting Matt go and finding another singer right away, or B. record this album as planned and with the singer for whom the music was written. Matt let us know that he was still very hooked on recording this album with us, but that he would understand and respect our final decision, should we wish to terminate our cooperation right away. After discussing this with my band brothers we came to the conclusion that we've started the journey of recording our new album together with Matt, and we will finish this album together with him. After we have completed this new album Matt is going to be concentrating solely on Iced Earth again. So this will be a onetime cooperation between Pyramaze and Matt, and this album will be one for the books. We all understand and respect Matt's decision, and there's no bad blood here at all. Matt is a genuinely nice guy with a honest heart, and we are proud to be working with him. I will also encourage you to read Matt's other statement at www.icedearth.com to give you some more insight in the situation. I guess now is a good time to reveal the cover for our new album which is called IMMORTAL. Let me also take this opportunity to wish you all a merry Christmas and a rocking new year. Hieman offtopikkia, mutta kun ei kaikki kuitenkaan tota Yngwie-topiccia viitsi lukea niin postaanpa tännekin, että Tim "Ripper" Owens siirtyy Yngwien kelkkaan kiertueelle, jolla promotoidaan heinäkuussa 2008 ilmestyvää levyä. Hyvä valinta Yngwie. Ja mikä tärkeintä, Ripper hoitaa vokaalit myös levyllä, joten vaihteeksi menee Yngwien uusin heti ostoon.

Rumors have been circulating for some time, but Guitar World has confirmed that Ripper Owens is indeed the new lead singer for Yngwie Malmsteen. Yngwie announced the news to the Guitar World staff today when he came to the magazine’s New York headquarters for an exclusive interview and photo shoot.

Malmsteen and Owens, who formerly fronted Judas Priest, are hard at work on a new CD, which is currently scheduled for a July release.

^Joops, toivottavasti tuosta hommasta tulee jotain. Täytyy vissiin tsekkaa levy kun ilmestyy. Ja toivottavasti Yngwie tekesi ensimmäisen "erilaisen" levyn sitten 15 vuoteen, eli ei kierrättäisi samoja kaavoja uudestaan.

Kyllä vähän houkuttelisi tuo Slave to the Dark... Mitä nyt laskeskelin niin lähemmäs 80 € säästäisi jos levyt erikseen ostamisen sijasta hankkisi tuon, enkä laskenut mukaan edes DVD:tä.

Olen tässä jo tosissani alkanut harkita Slave to the Darkin hankkimista. Iced Earthiin tutustuminen on ollut meikäläisen suunnitelmissa "jossain vaiheessa" -lokeron päällimmäisenä ostettuani vajaa pari vuotta sitten Alive in Athens -boxin (soi muuten parhaillaan, Dante's Inferno

), ja tuo Slave to the Dark olisi hintalaatusuhteensa osalta aika ihanteellinen ja kattava tutustumispaketti. Onnistuin vielä saamaan ensi kuun alusta alkaen töitäkin, joten on millä mällätä

.

Täytynee vielä Amazonin klippejä kuunnella, ettei ihan sikaa säkissä tule ostaneeksi

^ Jep, totaalikompit. Pitkään on pitänyt jo yhtyeeseen tutustua, ja nyt kun just sopivasti töitä sain, niin aika varmasti lähtee tuo boksi viimeistään kesällä tilaukseen.

edit/ Tosiaan, nuo oli noita vinyylireplicoita. Eipä ole itselläni niistä kokemusta, olen tosin paria hypistellyt käsissäni paikallisessa levyliikkeessä, ja aika köykäseltä tuntuivat.

On kyllä helkutin hieno boxi! Mulla on kyllä ennestään Dark Genesis boksi, Live in athens, Horro show, ja sitten se yks levy minkä nimeä en edes muista. Eli en näe aiheelliseksi hommata tuota. Kun ei taida enää puuttua uusinta lukuunottamatta Somethign wicked.... Sitä en ole siistä syystä vielä hommannut kun ei ole digipäkkiä tullut vastaan. Vitun hienoja noi itse levyt tuossa boksissa. Ei tuu montaa euroa levyä kohden hintaakaan.

Tommosia ei tueta! Miten toi edes voi mahtua CD-hyllyyn? Ja muutenkin menee enemmän keräilijöiden puolelle noin kalliit boksit. Tuskin kukaan aloitteleva kuuntelija laittaa reipasta satkua tollaseen, itse en ainakaan laittaisi. No support!

Ihan hyvin voisin laittaa rahani tommoseen pakettii, kun kerta satkulla saa sen 14 levyä + DVD:n päälle. Vai pitäiskö ostaa orginaalipainos kaupasta ja maksaa a'17 e per CD ja 25 e per DVD.

Vai onko Iron Maidenin ja Judas Pristinkin vastaavat paketit 'no support' tilassa?

Niinpä, miekään en vielä yhtäkään levyä yhtyeeltä omista, mutta youtube-kuuntelujen perusteella on sen verran laadukasta musiikkia, että ihan hyvin voisin rahat pistää tohon boksiin. Tulee kuitenkin sen ~80e säästöä tossa, kuin jos erikseen lähtis hankkimaan.

Käsittääkseni kaikki levyt ovat koteloineen tuon laatikon sisällä. Ja laatikon voi laittaa jonnekin talteen. Support.

Tuolla perusteella ei voisi oikeen mitään levyjä ostaa. Et varmaan ostanut manowarin uusimmastakaan erikoisversiota kun ei sekään normaaliin telineeseen mene?
