In November the all-star ensemble Avantasia will embark on their first worldwide indoor arena tour ever and write a new chapter in Heavy Metal history. Host Tobias overjoyed: "Kai will have a vocal role and play some guitar too. We've been friends for quite a while now. I remember, I was a little kid when I first heard Helloween's Keeper-albums. November 03, 2010 AVANTASIA-INTERVIEW WITH MICHAEL KISKE
On November 30th an allstar ensemble featuring Heavy Metal stars such as Jorn Lande (Masterplan), Bob Catley (Magnum), Kai Hansen (Gamma Ray, ex-Helloween), Michael Kiske (ex-Helloween, Unisonic), Amanda Somerville, Sascha Paeth (ex-Heaven's Gate), Olli Hartmann and many more will set off on a world tour to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime Avantasia-concert experience. According to mastermind Tobias Sammet the shows will be well over two hours long and the fans can expect all classics of the early Metal Opera albums as well as the hits and epics of the Scarecrow-album and the most recent chartbreaker albums "The Wicked Symphony / Angel Of Babylon". According to the European Billboard Charts the albums were among the ten best selling albums all over Europe upon their release, debuting on #2 in the German album charts.
As if this wasn't sensational enough, Tobias Sammet has managed to pull off yet another coup. He has managed to organize a world tour that will feature ex-Helloween legends Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen. It will be the first time the two former Helloween band mates will share the stage after Kai Hansen's departure from Helloween in 1989.
Tobiassammet.com has managed to grab Michael Kiske to ask him a few questions about the extravaganza.
Harmon Caldwell, Tobiassammet.com: Michael, in 1999 when Tobias first approached you to sing on his first Avantasia Metal Opera album what were your thoughts? What was it about Tobias and his music that made you want to sing his album while at the same time you were turning down other opportunities?
Michael: Of course I have to like the music. But with me it always also has a lot to do with the people who ask me. Tobi called me up and was kind of an ass, eh... I mean nice (kidding!). When he asked me the first time, I was still in the state of rather fading out the rock/metal-world, that's why I called myself Ernie on the album. I find that funny myself now. Today I am a lot more relaxed and since I met fans again in a few countries and played
live, I am okay with the idealistic and non-satanic parts of the metal-world again.
Tobiassammet.com: Of all of the songs you've performed on in the Avantasia discography do you have a favorite or favorites? If so, what makes that song or those particular songs special or more meaningful to you?
Michael: I don't have them all in my head right now, I will have to re-learn them again first, but one of my personal favorites is "Lost In Space" where my version didn't make it on the regular edition of the album unfortunately.
Tobiassammet.com: Recently it was announced that you'll also be touring with Avantasia in December. What are your thoughts and expectations of being part of this extravaganza?
Michael: I really don't know what to expect at all! Everybody tells me it'll be fun, so that's what I expect. Am thinking about getting myself a nice small full-HD camera for it. I am happy to get around again and especially to finally get to South-America, because I never have been there before.
Tobiassammet.com: Incredibly, your ex-Helloween mate Kai Hansen is also part of the worldwide touring "Metal Opera". After so many years, what are you looking forward to the most about sharing the stage with Kai once again?
Michael: Sharing the stage with Kai again .... after over 20 years! Also that Amanda is part of it is fun, because I like her very much.
Tobiassammet.com: Many Avantasia and metal-fans in general are very excited to have the opportunity to see you on stage and to have the chance to hear you sing these amazing Avantasia anthems. What are your thoughts... are you excited to take the stage and join in the energy of those shows with them?
Michael: Sure! But as I said, I don't really know what to expect, I just wait and see what happens. For me personally this is also another chance get more live routine back for "Unisonic" next year after almost 17 years of no live playing.

Häh? Onko Kiskellä joku friikki kristinusko tuon heavyvastaisuuden takana? Aika tekopyhää hylätä metallimusiikki siksi, että useat artistit kritisoivat lähinnä kirkkoa, mutta toki myös jossain määrin kristinuskoa. Missä näiden "uudelleensyntyneiden" kristittyjen todellisuudentaju on? Voisi moni muusikko ottaa mallia McBrainista, joka on pitänyt uskonnollisuutensa omana asianaan, eikä ole antanut sen hämärtää tervettä järkeä.
Miksiköhän Edguy ei jaksa innostaa, vaikka pari ensimmäistä Avantasiaa jaksavat? Pitäisi jossain välissä hommata koekuunteluun nuo uusimmat Avantasiat, jos ne kerran ovat enempi ihmisten mieleen kuin edellinen.

^Toivottavasti ei ainakaan Helloweenista saanut saatanallisia viboja Keeper of the Seven Keys -biisi on kuitenkin niin Jeesus-painoitteista tavaraa fantasiakontekstissa. Derisin aikana syvennyttiin sitten vielä enemmän tähän kristilliseen teemaan. Veikkaan, että Kiske kyrpiintyi lähinnä metalliskenen asenteisiin, jotka eivät kannustaneet miestä kevyempään suuntaan, saatanallisuus sitten vähän niinkuin liittyy samaan asiaan.
Yllättävää, että ei suomalaisia sen enempää kiinnosta naapurimaan keikka. Kyseessä kuitenkin melkosen spesiaali tapahtuma.

Kiinnostaisi kyllä niin ..tusti, mutta kun tuo Toinen puolisko oli kaulimen kanssa toista mieltä, niin pitäydytään Maidenin keikoissa ja kun siitä seuraavana viikonloppuna on "Lappeenrannan retki", niin jäi poies nyt tämä

Kiinnostaisihan tuo, mutta parempi vain pistää silmät kiinni ja toivoa että tapahtuma menee äkkiä ohi käytännössä arki-iltana on hankala revetä sveduihin, jopa hki aiheuttaisi tiettyjä probleemia töiden suhteen mutta sehän johtuu vain tästä välimatkasta. Aika nussakkaa tuolla varmasti olisi, ei siinä.

Paras keikka mitä olen koskaan kuullut/nähnyt (pois luettuna Maiden vedot). Ei käy teitä kateeksi jotka eivät keikalle olleet, missasitte jotain todella mahtavaa, ainutkertaista *laita tähän mikä tahansa superlatiivi*. Tohon settilistaan/laulajalistaukseen lisätään sen verran että Sommerville veti myös taustat kaikissa muissa biiseissä paitsi In Quest Forissa. Tämän keikan jälkeen mikään keikka ei tunnu missään.

Löytyisiköhän mistään buutsia/dvdtä tuosta ...
Sama settilista oli juu. Keikkapaikka oli Fryshuset Arenan, kaapelitehdasmainen kompleksi. Vetää vissiin noin 3500 ihmistä mutta nyt oli hallia jaettu lakanalla, ilmeisesti akustiikan parantamiseksi. Veikkaisin että paikalla oli ehkä jotain 2000 ihmistä ja ennakkomyynti ei ainakaan loppuunmyynyt, en tiedä miten sitten ovella mennyt lippuja.
Huikeita nuo liveclipit, Sign of the Crossissa lavalla Sammet, Kiske, Hansen, Catley, Lande.. Huhhuh! Naiskauneuttakin Somervillen kera
On tuo Landen lauluääni pirun kova, vasta Masterplaniin tutustuneena ajattelin aluks "perus heviääneksi" tuota, mutta piru kun löytyy munaa tosta.
Tästä innostuneena pitäs varmaan tutustua Avantasian kataloogiin paremmin kuin parin biisin verran, katsellahan... On se vaan suuri vääryys ettei tämä metallishow saapunut suomeen, olis ollut joka euron arvoinen.

^Lande on niin kaukana "perusheavyäänestä" kuin vain joku voi olla. Suosittelen hankkimaan kaiken, millä herra on laulanut. Niin minäkin teen... Mies valaisee äänellään koko universumin. Ei taida tänä päivänä olla yhtään autoon ladattua tikkua tai puhelimen kortille ladattua "työmusaa", jossa Lande ei jollain bändillään ole mukana. Näin täällä.
December 13, 2010 AVANTASIA DVD TO BE RELEASED IN FEBRUARY
Rumors keep circulating about a forthcoming Avantasia Live-DVD and now we can confirm they are true! Early next year a double-DVD and 2-CD set will be out on Nuclear Blast Records (in Japan and East-Asia on Avalon-Marquee). The DVD is a documentary of the legendary 2008 world tour of Avantasia, when the band hit the road for the first time to write a new chapter in Metal history; traveling around the world with a giant all-star ensemble to bring the Metal Opera on stage and play on three continents within a few days, crossing the dateline and eventually playing to a total of 400,000 people within only a few weeks. The first DVD contains a live concert with a running time of almost two hours featuring footage filmed at the headlining shows of Wacken Open Air (Germany) and Masters Of Rock (Czech Republic). On the second DVD there will be a movie "Around the world in 20 days" that gives fans the opportunity to join Avantasia backstage and take a look at the surroundings and the thrill behind the scenes that go along with an extensive undertaking such as this. The DVD-set will portray Avantasia 2008 when it all started.
Tobias says: "I am so proud of this DVD package and the featured footage, even though it took a little longer to finally complete it. It gives people an idea of what an impact the first appearance of Avantasia on stage had, and you will get an idea of how everything went beyond our expectations and what the roots and the seeds for the current Avantasia tour are.
