RIOT guitarist Mike Flyntz has issued the following statement regarding the passing of his bandmate, RIOT's founding guitarist Mark Reale:
"I would like to thank everyone for the support and love regarding the passing of my dear friend Mark Reale. I have had the honor to stand next to him on the stage and in the studio for over 22 years. Mark gave me the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream of recording and writing records, and also touring in support of those records. I was a fan first, getting his autograph after a RIOT show at L'Amour [in Brooklyn, New York] when I was in college. Mark was a shy man who didn't talk much unless he was being interviewed or on the phone. Lord knows he could talk on the phone. Mark also loved to laugh. One part of our special relationship was that we could laugh until we were crying, and he would be lying on the floor yelling 'please stop' and after five minutes of silence, all I had to do was look at him and it would start all over. I will forever cherish those moments. As far as a musician, he is the most underrated guitarist, songwriter, riff-creator, visionary in rock music. He should be in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame for his vibrato alone. Listen to his vibrato. His sense of melody was incredible. He taught me so much.
"There is so much more I need to say about my friend, but I have been at a loss of words since his passing. The only comfort I have is that he is out of pain."
Bändi siis teki ainoan oikean ratkaisun ja jatkaa. Mahtavaa.Blabbermouth wrote:Surviving RIOT Members Defend Themselves Against 'Cash-In' Accusations - Sep. 4, 2012
The surviving members of the legendary American hard rock band RIOT have released a statement defending themselves against accusations of "cashing in" on the group's name following the passing of RIOT's founding guitarist, Mark Reale.
Reale died on January 25 in a San Antonio hospital due to complications of Crohn's disease — an ailment he had battled for most of his life. He was 56 years old.
Writing on the official RIOT Facebook page, the band says, "To all the people and other 'so-called' pages that dont know what the real true story is and what's going on with RIOT...
"First off, we are NOT cashing in on the name. RIOT has never really made lots of money, not even Mark. He lived with his parents until the day he passed AND we all have day jobs! We do it for the love of music and have to take time off to play.
"Mark was our brother and he lived with us and we took care of him up until his untimely passing and we are still deeply saddened by the death of a family member.
"[RIOT guitarist] Mike [Flyntz] did ALL the guitar work on the [last RIOT album] 'Immortal Soul' except four rhythm tracks that Mark laid. Because of his illness, [Mark] was too shaky to play [the rest of the tracks] correctly and it did frustate him.
"Don [Van Stavern, bass] wrote most of the songs, like he did on 'Thundersteel' and 'Privilege Of Power', and has been with Mark since he co-wrote songs on 'Restless Breed' and 'Born In America' back in the early '80s.
"Mark was at the studio and was pleased with how it was coming out and was proud to call it a RIOT record.
"This is NOT the 'Rock City' lineup, this is NOT the 'Fire Down Under' lineup; it is the 'Thundersteel' lineup, with the original members of that era.
"We were ALL fans of the early stuff with [late RIOT singers] Guy [Speranza] and Rhett [Forrester].
"Mark and his estate's wishes were us to go on and most people want us to!
"We play songs WE wrote or co-wrote and play a few of Mark's songs in tribute to him and the early years!
"There are bands out there playing songs and performing with ONE original guy in the band and some didnt write any of the music — QUIET RIOT, GUNS N' ROSES, GREAT WHITE now QUEENSRŸCHE! And, of course, THIN LIZZY (well, a couple of guys, but NOT Phil [Lynott]) but people come out to hear songs they love.
"Mike Flyntz has been taking care of Mr. Reale [Mark's father] since Mark's death because [Mike] is like a son to him now.
"Have a little compassion and get the real story before you post anything you have NO clue about! Opinions are welcome, but vicious uneducated posts and comments [on our Facebook page] will NOT be tolerated and will be removed and blocked.
"A press release will be issued soon to let you know what's coming!"

Onks tuo muka oikeasti vasta 5. kokoonpano, Olli?Hi Friends,
We are proud to announce RIOT V as coheadliners of METAL ASSAULT Festival. RIOT V is the continuation of RIOT after the death of Mark Reale in the “Immortal Soul” Line Up plus new singer Todd Michael Hall (Jack Starrs Burning Starr). Please read the whole statement from the band for all detailed infos:
„RIOT would like to thank all of our fans for their undying patience, love and support as we go through a difficult transitional period for the band.
As all of you know, we lost our inspirational leader, founder and brother Mark Reale last year after a long battle with Crohn’s disease. In Mark’s honor and with the blessing of his father, Tony Reale, we have decided to continue to carry the torch for our fallen comrade.
There has been a lot of speculation and opinions concerning what the band should do next. We understand the apprehensions held by many, but out of respect for Mark and our legion of fans we have decided to continue to bring you the RIOT music you’ve come to know, love and appreciate throughout the years. We promise to continue on in this same great tradition. We couldn’t move forward without your support.
We also would like to thank the many singers who tried-out to be a vocalist with RIOT as we worked to replace the great Tony Moore, who has decided to step away from the music business. He has settled down with his wife, Ann and a great job. We thank Tony for joining us on a reunion record and a few dates for our fans and we wish him and his wife nothing but the best; Never Surrender Tony!
Thank you vocalist extraordinaires Tony Harnell, Bryan Harrington, Sean Peck, Daniel Heiman, Joey Belladonna, Chandler Mogel and a host of others for believing, singing and chatting with us and helping us out.
We would like to introduce an amazing vocalist and human being who will help us rebuild this metal juggernaut and step in and fill some big shoes while sharing the same vision as the rest of us. He has the experience to take over the
reigns and front one of metal’s pioneering bands with an amazing vocal range and stage presence. He is a great songwriter to boot! Please put your hands together and welcome to the stage … Todd Michael Hall.
You might know Todd from Jack Starr’s Burning Starr and Reverence. If you do know him you know this guy can sing! We went through many talented vocal submissions, but in the end, metal aficionado and guru Bart Gabriel, who happens to work with the great Burning Starr knew what we were looking for and bestowed upon us this great gift in a vocalist.
Todd is the fifth in series of great RIOT frontmen. Phase One: Guy Speranza; Phase Two: Rhett Forrester; Phase Three: Tony Moore, Phase Four: Mike DiMeo and now Phase Five: Todd Michael Hall!
With a few European RIOT V (Mark Reale Tribute) dates being booked for early 2014 and a new album in the works for a summer 2014 release, RIOT V is inspired as never before and still at the top of its game. The new CD promises to be a true successor to the legacy of “Thundersteel,” “Privilege of Power” and “Immortal Soul.”
Mark Reale and the RIOT legacy will forever shine on and as long as the people demand it we will keep coming back with great music for years to come.
Thank you and lots of love for your faith and undying support throughout the years and for your future support. Please welcome Todd Michael Hall to RIOT V.“
We are hoping to confirm the headliner next week, too and then the tickets go on sale, too.
