The book that follows the career of the band known as Blaze Bayley is now available for pre-order, due for release on 25 September 2009.

‘At The End Of The Day’ features the story of ‘Blaze’ Bayley Cooke, following his career as a frontman, from Wolfsbane to Iron Maiden to BLAZE and, ultimately, to the current self-titled Blaze Bayley band. However, this book is not solely about Blaze; rather it tells the story of the entire Blaze Bayley band that is about to begin work on the follow up to their debut album ‘The Man Who Would Not Die’. The book traces the history of all the band members, back to their roots in New Zealand, Colombia and…Bristol.

Written by drummer Lawrence ‘Larry’ Paterson, who has previously authored ten books on a completely unrelated subject — Second World War U-boats — this book offers a unique insight into the history of Blaze Bayley, the man and the band, as well as the inner workings and adventures of a band on the road and in the studio. The author takes us from the early beginnings of Wolfsbane in the mid-1980s, through the dizzying heights of touring with Iron Maiden to the triumphs and tragedies that lead right up to 2009, before offering the reader a glimpse into what lies ahead.

Alongside the full and frank contributions from the members of the Blaze Bayley band, the book features new interviews with BLAZE and Wolfsbane members plus exclusive interviews with Janick Gers and Steve Harris of Iron Maiden. Blaze himself explains in detail how he first attained the job with Iron Maiden, the truth about working inside such a renowned and hard-working band, and the events of the meeting at which his tenure fronting Iron Maiden ended. ‘At The End Of The Day’ also contains tour dates, discographies, and extensive black and white and full colour photographs.

Sainpa viimein keväisen Tampereen keikan liven käsiini. Tarvii katsella jos saisin heitettyä palvelimelle jakoon jossain vaiheessa. Tarvii tosin ensin varmistaa saako laittaa, en kuolemaksenikaan muista mitä sovittiin bändin kanssa tän suhteen, eli tuleeko niiden kautta vaiheessa vai miten.

Keikkoja tosiaan taas 2010. Ihmetellään näitä tarkemmin sitten kun ajankohtaista. Koetetaan saada alaikäisillekkin taas saumoja kyllä. Ja festareillekkin olisi tarkoitus pakkomyydä, mutta se nyt on aika tuuripeliä, joten niiden suhteen ei kannata toivoa liikoja.

Just thought I'd post a small extract for you from the book. This is from the Virtual XI Tour :

" At the end of May Iron Maiden became one of the few major heavy metal bands to travel to Malta and play a show on the small island nation, before beginning their North American tour towards the end of June. Once again, the budget had been severely slashed compared to previous Maiden tours.
Blaze remembered their first encounter with the US tour bus they were to use. “In America we discovered we could do a fly-drive there instead of a bus. The first day there in Chicago, the bus was supposed to pick us up after the gig. We get back to the hotel in cars, in a dodgy part of town anyway, and there’s like this homeless guy outside the hotel, crouched down smoking a fag. And the bus was up the road and looked well ropey. Anyway, it transpired it wasn’t a homeless person, it was only the driver of the bus! He’s got one lung, smokes like a chimney…not homeless at all, just knackered. He’s been driving two days to get the bus there. So we get on the bus which is dusty and dirty and we can see writing on the windscreen. We asked, well, how come they haven’t cleaned the bus? And the driver says, ‘you can’t clean that off the windscreen; that’s an FBI code to say that this bus has been used for transporting drugs!’ Basically, the bus had been impounded and the FBI had the right to use it to recover costs by hiring it out! Bloody great! So, Iron Maiden were driving around the USA in a bus that had been used to transport drugs, by a guy who hadn’t slept for two days and had one lung. To top it off, the bloke hadn’t filled the bus up with fuel and we were on the highway and could see the gas station and the bus broke down about 200 yards away….ran out of fuel. So we had to pile on the crew bus instead. You couldn’t make it up really….it set the tone of the tour.”

One from the adventures of the Blaze Bayley band returning from their first Russian gig near Moscow...

"Once we’d cleared the slowest and unfriendliest immigration lady that we had ever had to deal with (who resembled a vampire as a matter of fact) we boarded our Swiss Air chariot and headed homewards. The flight back was uneventful. Well…it was relatively uneventful apart from the high-jinks performed by one Jay Walsh as he slept his way through the flight. Jay has a peculiar habit of being able to do many things while sleeping onboard an aircraft, from eating cookies to snoring at a volume designed to crack the fuselage. On this particular occasion he decided to disturb the passenger in the seat in front of him. Unfortunately I was seated next to him at the time, and as Jay dozed manfully through the flight there was a particularly obnoxious and spoilt child running up and down the gangway, while its ineffectual mother shouted ‘sit down Niles! Sit down!’ Somehow this managed to seep into Jay’s fevered dreams and as I was unsuspectingly drinking my complimentary beer Jay threw up his hands and knees, crying at the top of his voice ‘Kill them all Niles! Kill them all!!’ In the process he managed to kick the chair in front of him and propel the poor innocent civilian sitting there forward into his lunch. The angry passenger peered over his seat back, to be confronted by the terrifying spectacle of slumbering Jay continuing to mumble all manner of homicidal exhortations to the fictional Niles in his dreams. The said passenger opted for discretion and retreated lest he wake the beast, while I tried to stop spitting my beer out with laughter. What the hell he was thinking of…we will never really know."

Alright mate...one more little one. I like this one too. It's a quote from Blaze at the beginning...

"“The first time I actually went to Steve’s house in Essex to write material for the new album I actually made a huge faux pas. Janick and I pulled up in our cars and went in to say hello. I’d left all my stuff in the car, my notes and things and after saying hello I wandered back out to get my stuff so we could begin. But the thing is, Steve’s got two bloody great big dogs, Great Danes they are, and in between me arriving and coming out again from his house one of them had done an enormous shit behind my car….which I didn’t see. So what’s the first thing I do? Yes….I get dog shit all over my boots and walk through his house with them on….leaving a nice smelly trail behind me. I walked in, into his lounge and over to the sofa and Steve goes ‘have you trod in dog shit?’ And I’m like ‘Ohhhhhh nooooooo!!’ Steve was gutted as his cleaner had literally just left. So the first half an hour of the first writing session for the new album was spent bent over cleaning dog shit from Steve’s expensive rugs and carpets. I thought he’d bloody fire me!”
Writing continued apace, with the standard Maiden watchword of quality above all else. Unlike Wolfsbane, the writing was done at low volumes, the majority of the sessions that Blaze was involved in held either in Janick’s converted garage or Steve’s living room. The voice was the centrepiece of these writing sessions, the loudest ingredient, which allowed plenty of work on the technique to be employed by Blaze on the new album. For Blaze some of this period was very surreal: “It was really weird in many ways, because you’re sat in Steve Harris’ lounge and he’s a man of great pride, although he keeps it to himself. But his house is plastered in platinum and gold albums from every country of the world and you’re sat in his lounge working with a guy, who’s an absolute legend…the man that wrote The Number of The Beast….a man of the highest possible calibre surrounded by everything that says, ‘yes, I’m good at what I do’. To bring my ideas to that and have them accepted was incredible. As intimidating as it was, it was really weird to put yourself in a one-to-one writing situation with guys like that, thinking, look what these guys have already done.”

Aivan mahtava kirja. En osaa sen syvällisemmin kuvailla, varsinkin kun olen vasta puolivälissä. Hyvin kirjoitettu, hauskoja yksityiskohtia, mielenkiintoisia faktoja, syitä ja seuraamuksia. Maidenin aikoihinkin tuli metritolkulla lisää syvyyttä, nyt on pakko kuunnella&katsella tuon aikaiset buutlegit läpi uusin silmin ja korvin..

Hyvältä näyttäis Blazen kiertueen suhteen, yks keikka on nyt varma ja rakennetaan parhaillaan muita siihen ympärille. Menee varmaan vielä muutama viikko silti ennenku mitään julkistetaan.
