Thompson could be Sanctuary's saviour

SERIAL entrepreneur Richard Thompson has made a small fortune over the past 19 years wheeling and dealing in film making, fashion and football.

His musical taste might not stretch as far as Sir Elton John and heavy rockers Iron Maiden, but whispers suggest he is ready to fork out around £1m to acquire a sizeable stake in bombed-out music group Sanctuary, 0.08p off at 1.68p.
Sanctuary, the world's largest independent record label, had a terrible 2005. It issued four profit warnings. Severe delays in key album releases hit profits, particularly at its Urban division run by Matthew Knowles, father of Destiny's Child singer Beyonce.

To survive it must now reduce its £134m overdraft with the Bank of Scotland. A £130m rescue rights issue is said to be on the cards and must be nailed down by the end of the month when the group's results are due.

Thompson buying, say, a 20% stake would, in the short term, help bolster the share price and assist broker Evolution's hard task in raising much needed cash. Long-suffering shareholders, including Dutch media tycoon and billionaire John de Mol with 19.5%, Goldman Sachs (11.3%) and Fidelity (9.8%) are all sitting on big losses. Perhaps Thompson has been persuaded to get involved by Sanctuary director Jim Driscoll. The latter is also chairman of intellectual property rights company Galleon (unchanged at 12½p),
in which Thompson was once a major investor. Both have worked in tandem before and could have a life-saving break-up plan for Sanctuary up their sleeves.

Ei tätä mielestäni tarvitse missään nimessä laittaa lukkoon. Tämä liittyy kyllä Maideniin, koska Rod Smallwood Maidenin managerina on Maiden faneja kiinnostava henkilö. Lisäksi henkilökohtaisesti kiinnostaa nämä Sanctuaryyn ja Maideniin liittyvät talousasiat, joita voidaan kaikkia käsitellä tässä.

Mutta eikös molemmat (eli levy-yhtiö ja management) ole osa Sanctuary Group:ia joka on siis tämä Andy Taylorin ja Rod Smallwoodin perustama firma.

Mikä muuten on kussut eniten Sanctuaryn nykytilaan joutumisessa ? Hommahan käynnistyi hienosti, firma otti hoiviinsa hyviä bändejä ja pukkasi ulos laadukkaita uusia levyjä ja julkaisi monelta bändiltä uusintapainoksia vanhoista paljon odotetuista levyistä. Osake oli korkealla ja firman takana vanhat ketut jo Maidenin alkuajoilta, Andy Taylor ja Co. Mitä hittoa tapahtui, mulle tuli ainakin tämä nykyinen ahdinko yllätyksenä. ^ Itsekin olen ihmetellyt tuota Santuaryn alamäkeä,luulisi että senverrasn kovaa materiaalia yhtiön nimissä julkaistaan ettei olisi hätäpäiviä.

Eikös se jotenkin liity ilmeisesti neiti Beyoncen vai oliko se Destinys childin jonkun levyn viivästymiseen tai jotain(korjatkaa jos olen väärässä.

Beyonce's father to blame for sanctuary's loss

The world’s biggest independent record label, the Sanctuary Group has admitted a decrease of 40% in profits, blaming the loss on the head of their Urban division, Matthew Knowles, father of Beyonce.

Delays in album releases have led to a decrease in profits for the Sanctuary Group
Profits have fallen from £10.6 to £6.6million in the last six months, due to album releases being delayed. The group claim that most of the delays are Sanctuary Urban releases, for which Knowles is responsible. As a result the record label’s Urban department has been restructured, with Knowles in charge of artist relationships only, and other executives taking charge of production.

In order to control their debt the Sanctuary Group plans to reduce their workforce by 10%, sell their books division and classical recording rights.

Sanctuary expect to recoup some of their losses this summer, through festivals, tours and new releases, however they have said that their earnings at the end of the year will be at least 25% lower than at the end of 2004.

Sanctuary Seeks £130 Million Rescue

Music group Sanctuary hopes to announce a £130m rescue package this week to shore up its finances as it risks breaching its extended overdraft limit.



The world's biggest independent record label, with artists including MORRISSEY, GUNS 'N' ROSES, IRON MAIDEN and THE STROKES, is expected to announce a massive share issue to raise the funds. The placing is likely to dilute heavily the existing investors' stakes.



Sanctuary owes about £120m to banking giant HBoS, which has agreed to extend its overdraft facilities by £12m to £134m, but only until the end of the month.



It has already warned that it will take a £170m exceptional charge when it unveils its longdelayed annual results for the year to last September, which are due by the end of this week.



Those close to the company insist that Sanctuary can still survive if the fundraising does not go ahead. But the size of its debt means that its lenders could demand a debt-forequity swap if it fails, since without a further extension to its overdraft Sanctuary will find it difficult to continue trading.



On the plus side, the latest album from The Strokes, First Impression of Earth, is doing well and is likely to sell up to 500,000 copies, while Morrissey, the company's best-selling artist, is expected to launch an album in the spring that could sell up to 800,000.



Sanctuary also expects good sales from the forthcoming album from heavy rock band Guns 'N' Roses.



It will use any money raised through the share placing, which is being organised by broker Evolution Securities, mainly to pay down existing debts.



However, such a fundraising is likely to be deeply discounted and so will virtually wipe out the value of existing investors' stakes.



John de Mol, the entrepreneur behind television's Big Brother, is a key investor with a stake of just over 19%. Sanctuary is now worth about £8m compared with £200m two years ago.



It issued the first of a series of profits warnings a year ago after big delays releasing key albums.

Bob Ayling, the former chief executive of British Airways, has taken centre stage as the £120,000-a-year chairman of troubled music group Sanctuary.

He has brought with him fellow Holidaybreak director James Wallace, who joins the group as senior independent non-executive director and chairman of the audit committee.

His arrival at the company, whose artists include Beyonce and Iron Maiden, follows a £110m rescue refinancing.

Mr Ayling said: "Before its recent troubles, Sanctuary was successful over many years. The new board is determined that it should be again."

The shares, which were trading around £147 in April 2001, closed up ½ at 51p yesterday. Mr Ayling said his priorities were proper corporate governance standards, financial transparency and performance.

^Ei olisi uskonut että maideninin lähipiirissä on tuommoisia persläpiä, todella yllättävää. Kunhan ei nyt Rodkin ole vaan mennyt hölmöilemään seolisi jo aika pommi, en kyllä jaksa uskoa että olisi.

^ Mistäpä sitä kukaan täällä asti voi tietää? Se, ovatko jotkut Maidenin lähipiirissä, ei vaikuta tuollaiseen mitenkään. Kaikki voivat tehdä kuprun tai olla tekemättä. Vanhat sedän puvuissaan tottuneet siirtelemään ihan liian valtavia summia paperilla

Totta, maidenin henkilökunta kuten pändikin on vaan aina vaikuttanut ns.rehdiltä porukalta, mitä nyt on DVD:eiltä sun muilta nähnyt, että sikäli yllätys. Eikös tuota Andyakin muuten haastetella Early... dvd:eellä.?

Kyllä haastatellaan. Ja ihan rehdiltä kaverilta vaikuttaa, mutta ei näköjään ikinä voi ihmisestä varmaksi tietää.

Ai siellä on Andy Taylorkin saanut kenkää. Mitähän ukko nykyään touhuaa, onko Maidenin kuvioissa vielä mukana vai vetääkö keittoa Bahamalla ja golffaa Nickon kanssa?

Käsittääkseni tuo Andy veti rahaa välistä, joten Nickon tuntien veikkaisin että jos Andyn näkee jossain, niin keittoa valuu pikemminkin Andyn nenästä. Sen verran tempperamenttinen tuo Neeko on, mitä tulee esim. siihen auto jupakkaa....no ei kyllähän se Nicko taitaa pohjimmiltaan ola suht hippi kun jumalankin on löytänyt

Ei siis ole omiin taskuihin rahoja kahminut, vaan yrittänyt katalin keinoin estää koko puljua ajautumasta konkurssiin kaunistelemalla tilinpäätöksiä. Vaikka Andy onkin joutunut tässä asiassa uhratuksi, en usko että hän on ollut yksin asialla vaan tekonsa on hiljaisesti hyväksytty johtoportaassa, johon myös Rod kuuluu.

Noin siis lukee A Matter of Life and Deathin kansivihossa. Pieni rötöstely ei siis juuri vaikuttanut asemaansa Maidenin managerina, joskaan ei enää työskentele Sanctuaryn nimiin.

^Niin, miksi antaa päteville aisapareille kenkää? Näin se homma toimii, voiton maksimointia... ja meikäläinen ei paheksu lainkaan.

Ruokkii vain entisestään epäilyjäni siitä ettei Rod muka tiennyt Andyn puuhista tämän ollessa vielä Sanctuaryn leivissä, mies vain joutui uhrilampaaksi kun päitä alkoi konkurssin kynnyksellä putoilemaan.
