Onko jollain muuten tietoa sellaisesta aussista kuin Mark Bridgeman (sukunimestä en ole varma), joka veti aikoinaan maidencentralia ja pääsi ilmeisesti Lontooseen töihin Sanctuarylle (tästäkään en ole ihan varma)? Treidasin joskus muutaman levynkin tuon hemmon kanssa ja vaikutti kivalta sepältä. Sehän sai nimensäkin johonkin Maidenin levyn kiitoslistaan, jos oikein muistan. Onkohan se vielä kuvioissa mukana?

Here's the lowdown on the biggest internet merger since Warner/AOL - the union of www.ironmaiden.com and Maiden Central!

There are hundreds of Maiden websites out there in cyberspace, in fact there are so many that you'd think that no one person could keep track of them all.

But you'd be wrong! That person exists and his name is Mark Bridgeman, more commonly known around the net as Strangeworld. He has a reputation as an all-round nice bloke on the Iron Maiden Bulletin Board, where he is already a Moderator, but his greatest 'net achievement is undoubtedly the Maiden Central Fan Portal.

If you've never checked Maiden Central out, you've been missing a lot. The site endeavours to list all the Maiden sites on the web, and carry news of the latest updates on all of them. It is a one-stop guide to what's happening with Maiden on the web, and now Maiden Central's extensive database of around 250 sites can be accessed right here, through www.ironmaiden.com!

So how did that happen then?

Skunk: Why did you set up Maiden Central in the first place?
Strangeworld: "Because I was tired of forever searching for new and interesting Maiden sites, as well as keeping up when the ones I *did* know about were updated. I saw the need for a Maiden/Bruce portal, and so I decided to meet that need.
I had two Maiden-related sites before Maiden Central, that, for various reasons, never really took off. The first was simply called 'strangeworld', which was planned to be a web-based history of the band, and the second was a tribute to Adrian."

Skunk: How did you feel when Addie called and asked if the two sites could combine forces?
Strangeworld: "I was ecstatic - the whole point behind the site was to increase awareness of *fan sites*, and having the opportunity to provide a direct stream of traffic from the Official Maiden site to those sites that are part of Maiden Central was too good to pass up!
Maiden Central had, I think, almost gone as far as it could on its own - at least until the new tour starts (we usually get a good jump in traffic then)."

In fact, since Maiden Central was linked through www.ironmaiden.com, its daily traffic has gone up by a whopping 140%! But what plans does young Strangey have for the future?

Strangeworld: "As always, more competitions. A Penfriends/Fans directory is currently in the works and should be ready in a month or so, a 'Maiden Central Store' where people will be able to comparison shop for Maiden items from various web-based retailers (including Eddie's Megastore!), and plenty of other things I haven't thought of yet :)"

Urgent Site News From Rod

When we started the BRAVE NEW WORLD TOUR it was the band’s and my intention to give you all a real insight into the tour, with on and off stage pics and videos, diaries etc similar to what Laz and l did on the ED HUNTER TOUR US leg in July last year. Except of a more professional standard and even more of it. All this was supposed to be timely and to be current with the tour. However as may of you may well have noticed this did not happen at all as planned.

(BUT didn’t NICKO do great with his regular diaries - after a while on tour its sometimes tough on the road to get together anything you don’t REALLY have to, so thanks Nick!)

So, as Laz is much too busy running Eddie’s Megastore and the fan club, l have had to get my trusty handycam out of its box once more. From here on, on this tour, the band and l will do it ourselves - starting now, in Japan. l filmed a load in Yokohama last night and Bruce took the camera on stage and into the wicker man with the virgins during Iron Maiden - you will see the (censored) version soon on this site!! I will film the big Tokyo show tonight too - hopefully all this stuff will be fun for you all - its not just straightforward live shots and tonight sake may play a major role. As l am just not techie enough to edit and send it back to the team online, it will be couriered back to team first thing tomorrow and will be up as soon as possible. Same with the photos - l need to get my Sony stick working!! However after this l’m gonna start "Rod’s Startling Tales of Mayhem in Japan" so keep an eye on the usual place.

I head back to the UK on Wednesday so NICKO will take over the camera main duties ably assisted by the rest of the guys. Now this could be fun so don’t miss it. It will all go in one big JAPAN tour section. The tech quality may not be what we originally intended but it will be there as quick as we can and it will show you stuff you would NEVER get in the mags and TV.

Some of you will also be wondering what happened to the answers to the Q&A - except for Nick’s - thanks again mate - top marks!!! l suppose you think we don’t know the answers - which may well be the case. But I’m going to give them all out again today and the band will do their best to catch up with this during the rest of this tour. And l will do mine too asap.

So there it is….excuses, apologies, but hope for the future!!!!

Whilst the road reporting end has not been as we hoped and planned, the home base gets more populated and the team goes from strength to strength.

Following nicking Skunk for her fantastic work on Bruce’s unofficial fan site, we now have the man behind MAIDEN CENTRAL joining us.

Mark Bridgeman, better known to most folk on the web as 'Strangeworld' or 'Aussie Mark', runs the excellent www.maidencentral.com fan portal, which we integrated into the main Maiden site earlier this year. He's also been the nicest and most even-tempered bulletin board moderator you could ever wish for…..or that’s what Skunk says. So we decided to give him a job here on ironmaiden.com! And he soon leaves Oz to join us in the UK - poor sod!!

Addie and Skunk are still here, beavering away behind the scenes, but nowadays it's Mark who's wearing the Web Admin hat and doing the actual work on the site. And he's doing it all from Australia at present, cos he doesn't want to give up his sunshine and his pool for now.

So any of you out there - keep building great sites, cos you never know - one day the call may come to join us at SANCTUARY.

That Is The End

Due to an announcement on the Official Maiden site, where Sanctuary and Iron Maiden yet again kick their fans in the teeth, Maiden Central is closing for good. I can no longer support a band who will make no concerted effort to tour in countries where their fans have been praying for a tour for years, and working to try and make it happen.

A little history: just before the release of Brave New World, a group of Australian fans ran up posters and postcards of the album cover, with release information, and distributed them around capital and major cities across the country. Pasted posters on telephone polls, and on walls. Put postcards in the CD racks of major retailers. Petitioned promoters to contact the band in regards to a tour.

Maiden's label in Australia, EMI, had NO MAJOR PRESS ADVERTISING for the album, and failed to get the Wickerman single outside of metropolitan Melbourne or Sydney in the weeks following its release (I finally found copies in Brisbane's main HMV --2 months-- after release. Needless to say they did not sell). The same goes for the release of Rock In Rio.

In this instance, the fans made a concerted effort to promote the BNW album, and there was much talk about Maiden visiting on the BNW tour. Fans who were in contact with promoters were told they were in discussions. In the end, the Australian tour never happened.

This time, Dance Of Death went into the top 20 in Australia. The single was played on radio. The fans were yet again in contact with promoters, who again said they were in discussions for a tour. And yet again, it is not happening.

Logistics my arse. Venue availability my arse. The band can take their full production to Japan, but cannot take it to Australia? My arse.

I have been a fan since 1986, and it pains me to see my favourite band do this to fans who have clung on in hope of one day seeing them. Most Australian Maiden fans now never will. I'm fortunate that I have tickets for their London show. After the disappointment of Dance Of Death, I am hoping that this gig will be a last hurrah. But I have a dreaded feeling that I'll be disappointed.

A sad end.

Rod kehuu lehdessä uuden dvd:n maasta taivaisiin. Toteutus kuulemma todella onnistunut, ja dokumentti on ”uraauurtava” : ”Off course I have seen the new DVD, ´Death On The Road´, and it looks great. The documentary part is something we have never done before either. It shows a side to the band hardly anybody has seen before, like recording in the studio and that sort of stuff.”

Tulevaisuudesta Rod kertoilee sen minkä jo tiedämmekin, eli 2006 uusi albumi ja sen kiertue. ”Then there will be the next episode in the history of Iron Maiden. Trust me mate, I´m planning way ahead of 2006, but I´m not going to tell that here, hahaha.”

Lehdessä on todella paljon mielenkiintoista juttua, mm. pitkä Brucen haastattelu koskien hänen soolouraa, uusimman levyn tekemistä, jatkosuunnitelmia, DVD:tä jne. En nyt jaksa koko lehteä tänne kopioida. Lisäksi Riggs kertoilee taiteilustaan, ja levyjen kansiin piilotetuista yksityiskohdista. Di´annoltakin on herunut pitkä haastattelu.

Tyytyväinen olen liittymiseeni, suosittelen muillekin ketkä eivät ole vielä ehtineet.

Voisikin harkita jos tuohon fan-clubiin liittyisi. Pitäisi vaan tietää kuinka rivakasta toimintaa siellä on?

Olin aikoinaan muistaakseni vuosien 95-2000 välisenä aikana Metallican fan-clubissa ja alussa sai lehdet ym. muut krääsät nopeasti mutta heti kun jäsen määrä pomppasi jostain reilusta 10-tuhannesta johonkin 40-50:een ellei enemmänkin niin alkoi takkuilla ja kunnolla.

No oli tuosta hyötyäkin sai ekana tietää kaikki uutiset ja vuoden 1996 jäähallikeikalla pääsin tapaamaan Newstedin ja Hetfieldin.

Itselläni tuli ilmoitus jäsenyyden vanhentumisesta joku aika sitten, ja sen kanssa tuli vehkoiltua liian pitkään ennenkuin lähetin uusintakaavakkeen. Nyt en tiedä olenko tällä hetkellä jäsen, lupasivat uusintaliittymislahjaksi Maiden paidan, mutta en ole saanut mitään vahvistusta liittymisestä tai paitaa vaikka kaavakkeen lähettämisestä on nyt monta kuukautta. Yleensä nämä asiat ovat hoituneet kuten UTI sanoi, noin kuukaudessa.
